Emily Pilbeam - Introducing MixTape - BBC Radio 6Music
Helen is a composer and violinist living in Preston, UK.
Winning Best Sound Design for documentary Eva at Film Fest International 2023, Helen is often approached for her experience in string and ensemble writing. Helen's music ranges from mysterious documentary underscore through to classical pastiche. She enjoys working with electronic undercurrents and her blending of violin and voice can be heard in her Ambient Folk, debut EP Aftermath, released in 2021. Helen’s music has been played on BBC 6Music, Radio Lancashire and BBC3 Unwind. Her track On the Wind was described by Emily Pilbeam as ‘totally breathtaking’.
In July 2025 Helen was one of eight female composers commissioned to write and mix a composition in L-ISA surround sound software, premiered at L-Acoustics Studios in London.
Short film Gone Fishing has recently been selected for Bolton Film Festival 2025, a BIFA and BAFTA qualifying festival and Helen won Best Score for her music on The Awakening at TMFF in 2025.
In Spring 2025, Helen worked as additional composer for Oli Julian on feature film Fackham Hall written by Jimmy Carr and Sam Thompson on feature science documentary The Peace Particle directed by Alex Kiehl (Mark Cavendish - Never Enough).
Helen works from her home studio in Preston, working in Logic Pro. Helen plays violin, piano and sings and has access to a range of fabulous remote musicians!
Helen was a mentee on the Northern Cohort of the WFTV Mentoring scheme 2024, mentored by Ben Foster.
Helen is an active member of WFTV and AWFC and also mentors for Help Musicians: Co Pilot scheme.
